HNTB celebrates 55 years in Louisiana as infrastructure solutions provider

History in the region includes significant projects to help move people and grow the economy of the Gulf Coast

BATON ROUGE, La. (Nov. 2, 2018) – HNTB Corporation is proud to celebrate its 55th anniversary of shaping infrastructure in Louisiana and across the Gulf Coast. HNTB traces its early work in the region to serving the Louisiana Department of Transportation in the design and construction of I-10 across the Atchafalaya Basin between Baton Rouge and Lafayette.

“What began as a small design office serving a handful of projects and clients has grown into a full-service engineering, architecture and planning practice leading some of the most forward-looking transportation, civil works, water resources and architectural projects in the country,” said Gen. John Basilica, Gulf Coast office leader and vice president, based in the firm’s Baton Rouge office. “Building trust and long-term relationships with our clients is how the firm consistently serves the region with technically innovative, meaningful work that has helped shape Louisiana and Mississippi’s infrastructure for more than half a century.”

To celebrate its milestone anniversary at a client and partner reception at Patrick F. Taylor Hall on the Louisiana State University campus, HNTB presented a contribution to the LSU College of Engineering. The gift will support laboratory and project-based learning initiatives within civil engineering and construction management as well as undergraduate scholarships and programs in diversity and non-traditional student recruitment, specifically for minority and female high school students.

In Louisiana, HNTB serves the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, Ascension Parish, the City-Parish of Baton Rouge, the City of New Orleans, Jefferson Parish, Plaquemines Parish, St. Tammany Parish, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission, the Capital Area Transit System, the Port of New Orleans, and other local and regional agencies. In Mississippi, the firm has proudly served the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 70 years.

The firm currently is working on, or has been involved with, some of the highest-profile projects in the region, including the design and construction of several segments of nearly all interstates and major Mississippi River crossings in Louisiana and Mississippi; the West Closure Complex pumping station and the comprehensive hurricane protection levee and floodwall system around greater New Orleans; the LA 1 bridge to Port Fourchon and Grand Isle; the I-10 Calcasieu River bridge in Lake Charles; the Baton Rouge storm water management plan, the Move Ascension transportation program and floodplain management program in Ascension Parish; the planned Belle Chasse bridge and tunnel replacement and the planned Loyola Avenue interchange at the new Louis Armstrong International Airport; and other major projects across Louisiana and Mississippi.

The Baton Rouge and New Orleans offices employ 40 professionals who serve clients across the Gulf Coast and support clients across the country. HNTB employs close to 700 professionals throughout the firm’s central region that includes Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, and Iowa.

HNTB is a member of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, among other organizations.

In addition to project work, HNTB's Louisiana offices are proud to support the local community. The firm sponsors events for several organizations and causes. Employees also serve on numerous civic and professional committees and boards throughout the region.

To help address growing demand for infrastructure improvements across the Gulf Coast, HNTB is seeking talented professionals to work on exciting and significant projects. Positions, internships for college students, will be filled in civil engineering, planning and support functions.
