Transit design and construction management expert Michael Trabold joins HNTB

Trabold’s experience includes design and construction of complex underground transit facilities

NEW YORK (Nov. 27, 2018) – Michael Trabold, PE, joined HNTB Corporation as a senior project manager and vice president in the New York transit/rail practice, based in the firm’s Empire State Building office.

He has more than 28 years of experience in transit design, construction management and tunneling, including design-build projects, with transportation agencies in the New York City area and Washington, D.C.

“Michael has worked on some of the region’s most challenging transit projects, including tunnels and station rehabilitation for New York City Transit,” said Stephen Dilts, HNTB’s New York office leader and senior vice president. “His expertise in managing the design and construction of complex transit facilities is highly valued by clients, and he is a great addition to our growing transit/rail practice.”

Trabold’s background encompasses work on many key infrastructure projects, including New York City Transit’s enhanced station initiative -- a design-build program -- and serving in various roles in both design and construction, including project manager for the Second Avenue subway line extension. He also has served as lead structural engineer on multiple design packages for the Gateway Tunnel project, project engineer for the Dey Street Tunnel project, which is a design-build contract that became part of NYCT’s Fulton Street Station complex, and project engineer for a Metro North Railroad facility at Grand Central Station as well as NYCT entrances at the Times Square station.

A graduate of Manhattan College with a master’s degree in structural and geotechnical engineering and a bachelor’s in civil engineering, Trabold is a registered professional engineer in New York. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Concrete Institute, Metropolitan Rail Club and the Underground Construction Association’s Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration.

HNTB plays an integral role in many of the region’s most important infrastructure programs, including construction manager for renewal and rehabilitation of multiple station facilities for New York City Transit; program manager for the redevelopment of John F. Kennedy International Airport; program manager for the Port Authority Bus Terminal redevelopment project; owner’s engineer for the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo (Tappan Zee) Bridge; lead structural designer of the Kosciuszko Bridge; technical consultant for the Goethals Bridge replacement project; and general engineering consultant for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, among others.
