Transit technology systems expert Alexa Gangemi joins HNTB in New York

Gangemi’s expertise includes complex technology implementation. program management and strategic planning

NEW YORK (April 8, 2019) – Alexa Gangemi, PMP, joined HNTB Corporation as a transit/rail senior project manager and associate vice president, based in the firm’s New York City offices. Gangemi has more than 20 years of experience working with systems technologies such as fare payment, crew management, and asset management.

In addition to managing existing transit/rail projects in the New York area, Gangemi also works with clients to identify, select and implement new technologies that help support business process improvements. 

“Alexa’s expertise with fare payment and other technologies enables transit/rail agencies to maximize performance of their systems,” said Stephen Dilts, HNTB’s New York office leader and senior vice president. “Her leadership in the industry and the many significant benefits she has helped advance with clients and fellow women transportation professionals, enhance mobility and engineering excellence throughout our region.”

Gangemi’s extensive experience includes work with transit agencies in Texas, Virginia and Maryland, in addition to New York. Her background encompasses the implementation of technologies used for fare collection, rail crew management, dispatching and timekeeping processes. 

Gangemi also served the commuter rail operator for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority as director of strategic planning.

A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering, Gangemi also holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Cornell University. She is the current Greater New York chapter president of the Women’s Transportation Seminar; she also served as 2017 chair of the WTS annual national conference.
