I-595 Express Corridor Improvements

HNTB’s expertise helps deliver Florida’s largest transportation infrastructure project

• Project is nation’s first P3 availability payment agreement
• Automated witness-and-hold captures all inspection data
• Project is delivered on day it was promised with no claims

HNTB provided construction engineering and inspection servicesfor the I-595 Express Corridor Improvements Project, which squeezes a three-lane reversible expressway into the median and improves frontage roads, ramps and interchanges, including the mainline.

To handle the massive volume of construction, HNTB developed the first automated witness-and-hold software program used on a Florida Department of Transportation project to streamline inspection and testing.

HNTB also recommended value-engineering concepts, such as micro-piles instead of pipe piles, which significantly advanced work on a complex interchange and reduced impacts to commuters, surrounding businesses and universities.

The 595 Express Lanes is the FDOT’s first transportation infrastructure public-private partnership and the nation’s first P3 availability payment agreement. The agreement allowed FDOT to advance the project 15 years sooner than the traditional model.

Working hand-in-hand with the concessionaire, HNTB ensured everything was built according to plans and specifications. The corridor opened on budget and on the day it was promised with no claims.
