2024 MAASTO Annual Meeting
The Mid-America Association of State Transportation Officials (MAASTO) Annual Meeting will be held August 26-28, 2024 in Kansas City, MO. Transportation leaders and professionals from the ten MAASTO states will be in attendance, including federal partners, state department of transportation CEO’s and executives, chief engineers, executive leaders, managers, and technical experts. Academic and private sector leaders will also be a significant part of the robust discussion and engaging meeting sessions.

- From Barrels to Automation: Keeping Work Zones Safe
- This session will delve into the exploration of various cutting-edge innovations that agencies are currently deploying to enhance work zone safety. Representatives from the Departments of Transportation in Michigan, Ohio, and Minnesota will share their most recent efforts to leverage technology for safety. The discussed innovations will include Connected Vehicle applications that utilize the Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx), machine vision technology to detect workers and alert drivers timely, Autonomous Truck Mounted Attenuators (ATMAs), and automated work zone enforcement methods.

- Panel: Public Involvement/Virtual Public Engagement
- This session will focus on processes and strategies to encourage and enhance public input for Kansas DOT projects. In collaboration with HNTB, KDOT developed virtual strategies to broaden outreach to diverse populations and increase public involvement. Specific project examples will be covered.
