Anthony Bartello honored as 2024 Hall of Fame inductee by Intelligent Transportation Society of New Jersey

HNTB leader honored for innovation, mentoring, subject matter expertise and driving ITS

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (October 10, 2024) – Anthony (Tony) Bartello, PE, associate fellow and vice president at HNTB, has been inducted to the Intelligent Transportation Society of New Jersey (ITSNJ) Hall of Fame. The ITSNJ Hall of Fame inductees include distinguished leaders in the Intelligent Transportation Systems and Services (ITS) industry who have been recognized for impactful work and dedication throughout their careers.

With more than 35 years of experience, Bartello is a pivotal leader at HNTB. He has excelled in both design and project management across more than 70 ITS projects for agencies throughout the New Jersey and New York region. Highly trusted by the firm’s clients, Bartello is frequently called upon by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA), New Jersey Department of Transportation, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to manage and design their most complex ITS initiatives.

Bartello helped launched a dedicated department for ITS at HNTB and was instrumental in establishing an ITS systems integration and testing center at the firm’s Parsippany office, further enhancing HNTB’s capabilities in digital infrastructure solutions.

Some of Bartello’s notable projects include:

  • NJTA’s LED roadway lighting program and the development of its 10-year ITS Master Plan, which included program oversight.
  • The NJTA’s private wireless ITS communications network project, providing complete ITS communication services.
  • Management of the NJTA’s award-winning Statewide Traffic Management Center, overseeing architectural design and all ITS systems.

As an industry expert, Bartello has authored and presented more than 15 professional papers on topics including ITS, traffic management centers communications and movable bridges.

Bartello holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and is a licensed engineer in New Jersey. He is an active member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and serves as a board member for ITS America. Additionally, he is involved with the ITS New Jersey and New York chapters.
