Digital innovation initiative will increase work zone safety and automate lane closure processes.
DES MOINES (July 8, 2022) –The Iowa Department of Transportation selected HNTB to assist in the development and deployment of a statewide lane closure management system. Under the contract, the firm will work alongside Iowa DOT to provide consolidation, automation and improved overall enterprise knowledge of work zone activity and automated lane closure processes.
“We are excited about the opportunity to work alongside Iowa DOT on this important digital innovation initiative that will increase safety and enhance awareness around work zones throughout the state,” said project manager Mark Pierson.
Over the next three years, HNTB will work to create and implement a comprehensive lane closure management system that will facilitate the planning, screening, coordination, approval, tracking and analysis of lane and shoulder closures on primary highways across the State of Iowa. The system will be accessible by internal and external users and use connectivity and automation with many varied existing systems to gain efficiencies and minimize the level of effort required by users.
“We are proud to partner with Iowa DOT on this important safety initiative to deliver digital infrastructure solutions,” Gretchen Ivy, PE, HNTB Central States office leader and vice president. “We look forward to even more opportunities to collaborate as they continue to develop other innovative technological solutions.”
