Seasoned project controls professional and demonstrated leader in e-Builder Enterprise
MINNEAPOLIS (June 13, 2023) – Luke Van Santen has joined HNTB as a principal project controls business analyst in HNTB’s Minneapolis office. Van Santen will play a pivotal part in overseeing project controls and analytics, ensuring the successful execution of complex infrastructure projects.
With a wealth of experience in project controls and a deep understanding of the industry, Van Santen brings extensive e-Builder administration and implementation experience to further strengthen HNTB’s project controls capabilities.

Prior to joining HNTB, Van Santen built an impressive career with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, where he served in several varied roles for nearly 25 years.
In addition to his role with MnDOT, Van Santen made significant contributions to the development of the region’s transportation system through his secondment to Metro Transit as the project controls and management system administrator. For more than 16 years, he played a vital role in supporting multiple commuter rail, light rail and bus rapid transit projects, bringing his expertise and insights to enhance the success of these critical infrastructure initiatives.
He also served as the primary e-Builder Administrator for the e-Builder system used on more than $5 billion of light rail transit projects. Some of his project experience includes the Gold Line BRT, Blue Line Extension LRT, Southwest Corridor LRT, Central Corridor Light Rail, Northstar Commuter Rail and 494 Reconstruction Phase 2.
Van Santen is a member of the Hennepin County Active Transportation Committee, an e-Builder Certified Gold Partner Team Member and e-Builder Certified Professional. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (civil option) from the Colorado School of Mines.
