Experienced leader and accomplished project manager has over 18 years of engineering expertise and deep understanding of local infrastructure landscape
DES MOINES, IA (Sept. 27, 2024) – Stephanie Hemberger, PE, has been named by HNTB Corporation as the Iowa practice leader. Hemberger has more than 18 years of diverse engineering experience, spanning all project phases from planning and conceptual design to final design and construction services for both state and municipal clients. She is based in the firm’s Des Moines office.

In her new role, Hemberger will oversee the operations of the firm’s Des Moines office and manage the client and project development processes throughout the state. In this capacity, Hemberger and her team will continue to support clients such as the Iowa Department of Transportation, City municipal clients, Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority and the Des Moines Airport Authority.
Hemberger joined HNTB in 2006 as a design engineer in the firm’s Kansas City office. Most recently, she led the transportation design practice in Des Moines, successfully establishing and growing the local design team.
Throughout her impressive career, Hemberger has led numerous projects, ranging from small to large-scale for both state and municipal clients. Statewide, she has played a critical role in developing key infrastructure projects, including the planning phases of the I-380 corridor from Iowa City to north of Cedar Rapids, and design of the I-29/I-480/W. Broadway system interchange in Council Bluffs.

Hemberger is active within the industry and community through organizations such as the Women’s Transportation Seminar Iowa Chapter, American Society of Consulting Engineers Iowa, and the Iowa State University Civil and Environmental Engineering External Advisory Council. In 2023, she received the WTS Iowa Chapter’s Member of the Year Award, recognizing her four years of dedicated service on the Board of Directors. Additionally, she is a class of 2022 graduate of LeadDSM’s Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute.
Hemberger, a licensed professional engineer in Iowa and Missouri, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Iowa State University and a Master of Business Administration from Rockhurst University.
