United Airlines selected HNTB as the prime designer for the complete redevelopment and expansion of its hub in terminals 7 and 8 at Los Angeles International Airport. The scope included redeveloped concession spaces, ticketing, security checkpoint, baggage claim, curbside, concourse circulation areas, passenger departure hold rooms and a new United Club.
In addition, the redevelopment creates new concessions spaces at optimal locations to maximize revenue to the airport. This $480 million project is a phased reconstruction and expansion to a total of 305,000 sq. ft. The terminal 7 and 8 baggage and building systems were completely replaced to provide a more efficient and sustainable environment for United and its passengers. The project uses state-of-the-art passenger processing technologies for screening, ticketing and boarding.
