With 32 platform stops stretching nine and a half miles each way, the route services over 40,000 residents and approximately 91,000 jobs. As the first bus rapid transit line in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, EMBARK Transit’s RAPID Northwest line is making connections possible by improving accessibility and mobility in Oklahoma City’s northwest corridor.
The route connects three hospitals, several residential neighborhoods and downtown Oklahoma City; it also integrates into the more extensive EMBARK Transit network, the OKC Streetcar and local bike shares.
HNTB has worked alongside EMBARK since the project’s early conception. The firm provided environmental analysis and documentation, concept plans, planning studies, public and stakeholder engagement, and final design of BRT stations and related infrastructure and amenity improvements.
Stations are equipped with amenities including:
- Real-time arrival displays
- Ticket kiosks
- Wayfinding pylons
- Handrails
- Bike Racks
- Shelter
- Benches
- Trash Receptacles
- Level boarding
The commitment to improving accessibility and mobility in this project is evident in its ADA compliant design and infrastructure enhancements. Wider vehicle doors and level boarding access at every stop ensure ease of access for all, while increased lighting, improved sidewalks and crosswalks and high-quality transparent shelters increase safety for pedestrians and riders.
The RAPID NW line uses a fleet of nine, 40-foot, clean-natural gas (CNG) vehicles equipped with luxury seating and amenities that provide an elevated experience for riders.
Intelligent traffic systems at 38 intersections throughout the corridor provide Transit Signal Priority to hold green lights longer for RAPID buses -- ensuring quick and on-time trips.
